  • Zinc Body Sunscreen by Elta MD
    UV Lotion SPF 30
    Elta MD
    $34.00

    Size: 7 fl. oz

    Who It's For

Great for those times when you want a pump and a bigger size to do larger areas. The facial sunscreens are too expensive to use all over.  Not for areas with acne or oily skin.  Rubs in easily.

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

This is a fabulous product at a good price.  It's the highest quality sunscreen (7.5% zinc) that comes in a larger, pump size, that I've found anyway.  Comes in a 7 oz pump and can be used for face or body. Contains zinc 7% (blocks full spectrum UVA) plus a common UVB blocker. Paraben free.  Not too chalky.

    How to Use

Use daily on face, neck, chest and hands, 30 minutes before sun exposure.

    Ingredients

Active Ingredients: 7.5% Octinoxate 7% Zinc Oxide Inactive Ingredients: Purified Water, Petrolatum, Isopropyl Palmitate, Octyl Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Cetearyl Glucoside, Dimethicone, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Polyisobutene, PEG-7 Trimethylolpropane Coconut Ether, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Polyether-1, Citric Acid, Oleth-3 Phosphate, Phenoxyethanol, Butylene Glycol, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

Light, sheer, daily SPF 40 (but not as light as the Clear) with 9% Zinc Oxide for good UVA and UVB protection. For the face, either alone or under makeup. Glides on easily and absorbs quickly into the skin. Hyaluronic acid to increase skin smoothness and softness and to decrease appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Paraben-free. Men like this product usually.

    Who It's For

Best for normal to combination skin to moisturize and protect from sun damage.

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

This is my favorite daily sunscreen, and it is more affordable than my other daily favorite, the DermaQuest ZinClear. It's lightly tinted and lightly moisturizing, but isn't oily. Goes on sheer with just a hint of color and make-up goes well over it. Has 9% zinc oxide. A little hyaluronic acid in it improves skin texture. Paraben free. Men usually like this product.

The Tinted version just adds a bit of color, which is great for summer and fall.

    $57.00

    Size: 0.21 oz

    Who It's For

Everyone, nice for kids and men, and for double coverage over a lotion or cream sunscreen.  Especially key for those with melasma or other pigment problems.

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

Powder Sunscreen. This is a great invention.  I love this product and use it all the time. The Medium shade is pretty clear and good for all sites.  The Tan shade is the tinted version and is nice for the face.  Especially great for outdoor sports because it can be reapplied without getting your hands greasy. It's also fast to apply due to the built-in brush applicator. Even better over a lotion sunscreen base.  I often use this product over a lotion/cream sunscreen base especially for athletics and high sun situations.

Good for golf, cycling, hiking, open-water swimming, rock climbing, long distance running, rowing, and many other situations where grease doesn't cut it. It's lightweight and small to carry. Men and kids like this product usually.

Great for a humid climate (or oily skin), because it goes on dry and leaves no oily, greasy sheen. Expensive but worth it, and it lasts a long time. Layer it over a sunscreen lotion for maximum protection at altitude or in intense sun. Men like this product usually.  Make sure to apply it in a well-ventilated area.

Use this SPF 30 for everyday use.  Use the SPF 50 for outdoor activities or occupations or if you want extra protection.

    How to Use

Apply this in a well-ventilated area, and do not breathe in the powder.  Brush on skin that has some moisture or lotion on it (i.e., not on dry skin) before sun exposure, repeat application after perspiring, immersion in water or toweling.  It comes in a small tube, with a self-contained brush. You just shake the powder down, and brush on the powder. The powder stays on your skin, and the high zinc and titanium content gives you great UVA and UVB blocking.

    Ingredients

Active Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide (12%), Zinc Oxide (12%) Inactive Ingredients: bismuth oxychloride, calcium, cilicate, corallina officinalis, dimethicone, dimethicone/vinyldimethicone crosspolymer, iron oxide, manganese, violet, mica, titanium dioxide

  • High Zinc Sunscreen Non-Tinted
ZinClear SPF 30 Non-tinted (now called SheerZinc)
    DermaQuest
    $51.50

    Size: 2 fl. oz

    Who It's For

Great daily sunscreen (not for sports, water etc.) for those who want the extra zinc especially for melasma or other pigment problem.  Works well for all but the darkest skin types - could be a little chalky here but you can put makeup over it.

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

Still one of my favorites. Note that this is now called SheerZinc.  New name, but the same excellent product.  No other sunscreen has 18% zinc and goes on this well that I’ve ever seen. This is the clear, non-tinted version which goes on fairly white but absorbs quite well after several minutes.  Scroll down to see the tinted version which many like better.

Great for melasma and anyone with pigment problems due to the 18% zinc. This is a physical (mineral) sunscreen, meaning that it contains no sunscreen chemicals. Excellent also for sensitive skin. Expensive, but worth it for the extra protection.

    How to Use

Apply sunblock in the morning and reapply every 2-3 hours if sweating or outdoors.

    Ingredients

Active Ingredient: Zinc Oxide 18.60%, Inactive Ingredients: Water, Cyclomethicone, Glycerine, Glyceryl Stearate and PEG 100 Stearate, Sorbitol, Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbitan Stearate, Lecithin, Arabidopsis Extract, Plankton Extract, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA

Note that we carry the tinted version called "Nude," which has the least amount of dark tint.  If you want a darker shade, you can order "Tan" or "Sunkissed" through another site.  We do carry the non-tinted version also here on SkinTour.

Organic. Great product on the the neck and chest because it's very hydrating (remember very few oil glands on the neck especially), doesn't stain clothing and contains zinc 5% which blocks UV through the full spectrum.  Subtle fragrance and a little chalky at first but absorbs well after a few minutes.

Dr. Irwin's Review: Organic. Zinc 5%. Very similar to the cream with the same name but a better value. You could easily use this on your face, it’s just a little less hydrating than the cream. It doesn't seem to stain clothing and contains zinc 5% which blocks UV through the full spectrum.  It's in a larger size which makes it more cost effective on the body.

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

Zinc 5%/titanium 6%.  Most who have tested this loved it. At least half my office uses it. Lightweight, with a slight universal tint so not too chalky. Water resistant, mineral block with zinc, paraben-free.  Goes well under makeup as a base.  The Neocutis tinted sunscreen is more matte.

    How to Use

In the morning over your antioxidant and moisturizer.  Reapply if swimming, sweating, out a long time, etc.

  • Medium skin color self tanner from Sun Laboratories
    Self-Tanning Lotion - Medium
    Sun Laboratories
    $30.00

    Size: 8 fl. oz

    Who It's For

Good for all skin types except the very lightest.  Not that dark when it develops.

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

Sun Laboratories makes great self tanners. Their products go on well, without being too heavy or greasy. They smell reasonably good - not that chemical smell you get with many self tanners. They don't streak (unless your application is really bad), and the color tone is natural, not too orange.  We now carry the Medium, which gives some color but is not too dark.  You can start with a small amount and rub it in well, then see how dark it comes out.  You can always add more the next day.

    How to Use

Always exfoliate well first and be careful around joints and feet to not apply too much.  Rub in thoroughly and apply with gloves or wash your hands well after application.  Brown spots on your skin will tend to pick up more self-tanner.  So if you have have brown spots, you may want to take a Q-Tip and rub off the self-tanner on them.  Put regular skin cream on your hands before applying self-tanner; that helps to get the self-tanner off your fingers when you're done.  Or use exam gloves (drugstore).

    Ingredients

Deionized Water, Dehydroxyacetone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Clyceryl Stearate (And) PEG 100 Stearate, Hazelnut/Pecan Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol (And) Ceteareth 20, Cetyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Stearate, Aloe Vera Extract, Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Tetrasodium Edta, Methylparaben, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propylparaben, Fragrance, Sodium Metabisulfite, Ascorbic Acid, BHT, Citric Acid, Fd&C Yellow #6, FD&C Red #40, FD&C Blue #1

All skin types except the oiliest.

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

Finally!  A tinted moisturizer with a high quality sunscreen.  Zinc 7.3% and has a universal tint works for most except the darkest skin types.  Our office really likes this product because the tint gives a little coverage like a tinted moisturizer but has a matte finish -  definitely more matte than the SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion Product which has an oilier base that's great for dry skin.

    How to Use

In the morning over your antioxidant and moisturizer (if you need one).  Can use alone or put over a sunscreen if active or outside a lot.

    Physical Eye UV Defense Sunscreen
    SkinCeuticals
    $30.00

Size: Don't be surprised when you see how small this product size is. This product is a tiny tube of 0.3 fl oz (10ml).

    Who It's For

    See review.

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

This product goes right on the eyelids and whole eye socket area (periorbital) - it's formulated for this sensitive skin.  Here's who really needs this product: anyone who has a fair amount of sun damage and/or wrinkles around the eyes; anyone who is undergoing laser procedures around the eyes; anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors, but especially runners, cyclists, golfers, open water swimmers, and hikers/climbers; and......anyone who doesn't wear sunglasses regularly.  It doesn't sting the eyes with sweating.

    How to Use

You can use it alone.  For women, I personally like my eye cream under it and sometimes then even use a concealer over it.  It works with eye makeup well.

    Ingredients

Actives are titanium 9% and zinc 4%.  I'd rather these were reversed so there was more zinc but it still blocks the UVB.  It blocks the UVA fairly well but not perfectly. Titanium Dioxide 9%, Zinc Oxide 4%. Dimethicone, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Triethylhexanoin, Isohexadecane, Talc, Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, C30-45 Alkyldimethylsilyl Polypropylsilsesquioxane, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Aluminum Stearate, Alumina, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Iron Oxides, Phenoxyethanol, Silica Silylate, Peg-8 Laurate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, 2-Oleamido-1,3-Octadecanediol, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Paraffin, Aluminum Hydroxide

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

This is a very user friendly, lovely product.  Why aren't more spray sunscreens like this one??  It's meant for the body and larger areas but could be used on the face - just close your eyes.  Lightweight, not greasy, spreads easily, neutral but pleasant smell and 12% zinc for UVA and UVB protection!!!

Great for golf, tennis, boating because you don't need to get your hands all goo-ey with lotion.

The spray conserves product well so you don't waste it, by staying where you point it.

These gloves are great to protect your hands from the UVA light that comes in through your windshield.  I use them all the time now when I'm driving.  Soft, easy to get on and off, with the tips cut out, so you can use your phone, if needed.   They even have a textured surface on the grip so your hands won't slip on the wheel.

    How to Use

Anytime, but especially good in the car.

SkinTour's Philosophy:
Skincare is your best
investment
One of the best investments in your skin is your daily skincare. Why? Because you can prevent many problems with blotchy skin color, lack of glow, texture, some types of acne, and fine lines with good skincare products. You can also correct some of these problems with effective skincare products. Great skincare is often more expensive because quality ingredients are expensive. Some companies spend on research/development which benefits all of us and adds to the cost. Are they worth it? In general - yes!
