  • organic cleanser
    Lemon Cleanser
    Eminence
    $36.00

    Size: 8.4 fl oz

    Who It's For

Good for most skin types, especially dry or sensitive skin. Not great for oily skin or citrus allergies.

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

Organic. I use this organic cleanser as part of my own daily regimen. It cleans well but without stripping off natural oils. Like many Eminence products, it has a subtle fragrance that's not overpowering or too long lasting.  A creamy base.

    How to Use

Apply to damp skin and massage gently once or twice a day.

    Ingredients

Lemon, Lemon Grass Tea, Corn Germ (Zea Mays) Oil, Bioflavonoids, Natural Cream Base, Calendula Oil, Glycerine, Natural Moisturizing, Factor, Biocomplex (Vitamin A, Esther C Vitamin E Coenzyme Q10, Alpha Lipoic Acid), Lemon Oil, Balm Mint Oil, Glycine Derivative, Xanthan Gum

  • antioxidants
    Phloretin CF Gel
    SkinCeuticals
    $165.00

    Size: 1 fl. oz

    Who It's For

All but sensitive skin.  If you are sensitive, try this in a small amount for a few days on a test area.

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

SkinCeuticals made its name originally by making the best antioxidants, and this one is no exception. 3 antioxidants in one, it contains L-ascorbic acid 10%, phoretin 2%, and ferrulic acid 0.5%. My personal antioxidant under my sunscreen. The same high quality without the glass jars - love the new closed pump with its travel-friendly packaging. Oxidizes only minimally with time (turns slightly yellow).

    How to Use

Apply after cleansing and under your moisturizer and/or sunscreen.

    Ingredients

    2% Phloretin, 10% L-Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C), 0.5% Ferulic Acid

  • hydrating gel, no oil, light
    Hydrating B5 Gel
    SkinCeuticals
    $82.00

    Size: 1 fl oz

    Who It's For

Oily, acne-prone skin that still needs hydration without any oil.  Good also if you are dryer but still acne prone.  Men generally like this product.  OR.....for very dry skin, as a layer under your moisturizer.

    Dr. Irwin's Product Review

This product has three great uses:

    1. Men and almost anyone with oily or acne prone skin, love this product. Its hyaluronic acid base adds hydration without any oil. Very light, and still hydrating. One of the best moisturizers on the market for oily skin, in my opinion.  Expensive but worth it.

    2. As an layer under moisturizer, for very dry skin or skin that doesn't retain surface moisture very well - like the month or two after a laser procedure or peel.  Use it help retain moisture in the skin and put your moisturizer and sunscreen over it.

    3. For sensitive skin  -  tends to be well tolerated since very few chemicals.

      How to Use

One to three times a day.  Good for use with a Vitamin C serum (use the serum first, then this), and can be used under another moisturizer or sunscreen

      Ingredients

Water, Sodium Hyaluronate, Pantothenic Acid, Pheonoxyethanol

    1. Tinted UV Daily SPF 40 Pump
Tinted UV Daily SPF 40 Pump
      Elta MD
      $28.00

      Size: 1.7 fl. oz

      Who It's For

Best for normal to combination skin to moisturize and protect from sun damage.

      Dr. Irwin's Product Review

This is my favorite daily sunscreen, and it is more affordable than my other daily favorite, the DermaQuest ZinClear. It's lightly tinted and lightly moisturizing, but isn't oily. Goes on sheer with just a hint of color and make-up goes well over it. Has 9% zinc oxide. A little hyaluronic acid in it improves skin texture. Paraben free. Men usually like this product.

The Tinted version just adds a bit of color, which is great for summer and fall.

      How to Use

Use daily on face, neck, chest and hands, 30 minutes before sun exposure.

      Ingredients

Active Ingredients: 9.0% Zinc Oxide, 7.5% Octinoxate. Inactive Ingredients: Purified Water, Petrolatum, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cetearyl Glucoside, Dimethicone, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Polyisobutene, PEG-7 Trimethylolpropane Coconut Ether, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Polyether-1, Citric Acid, Oleth-3 Phosphate, Phenoxyethanol, Citric Acid, Butylene Glycol, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane

    2. Rich hydrating eye cream
      Lumiere Riche Bio-Restorative Eye Balm
      NeoCutis
      $108.00

      Size: 0.5 oz

      Who It's For

Ideal for those with wrinkles and sun damage on the eyelids and around the eye area.

      Dr. Irwin's Product Review

This product is great and supported by a study in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology. It contains PSP which stimulates cell activity and growth. If you like science, it is a mixture of human growth factors, cytokines and interleukins.  PSP is similar to the TNS product (see antiaging in this shop) that so many people love.   Also contains a form of hyaluronic acid which hydrates and a yam extract which plumps the thin skin around the eyes.

      How to Use

Apply morning and night to the eyelids down to the cheek margin and include the wrinkles ("crow's feet").

      Ingredients

Water (Aqua), C12-20 Acid PEG-8 Ester, Petrolatum, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Glycerin, Saccharide Isomerate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate / Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Isohexadecane, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Dioscorea Villosa (Wild Yam) Root Extract, Bisabolol, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Caffeine, Processed Skin Proteins (PSP™), Disodium EDTA, Phospholipids, Glycyrrhetinic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Acrylates / C10-30 Alkylacrylate, Crosspolymer, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Hydroxide, Tocopherol, Beech Tree Bud Extract (Fagus Sylvatica Extract), Palm Oil (Elaeis Guineensis), Tocotrienols, Squalene, Phytosterols, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Polysorbate 60, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzoic Acid

    3. High Zinc Sunscreen Non-Tinted
ZinClear SPF 30 Non-tinted (now called SheerZinc)
      DermaQuest
      $51.50

      Size: 2 fl. oz

      Who It's For

Great daily sunscreen (not for sports, water etc.) for those who want the extra zinc especially for melasma or other pigment problem.  Works well for all but the darkest skin types - could be a little chalky here but you can put makeup over it.

      Dr. Irwin's Product Review

Still one of my favorites. Note that this is now called SheerZinc.  New name, but the same excellent product.  No other sunscreen has 18% zinc and goes on this well that I’ve ever seen. This is the clear, non-tinted version which goes on fairly white but absorbs quite well after several minutes.  Scroll down to see the tinted version which many like better.

Great for melasma and anyone with pigment problems due to the 18% zinc. This is a physical (mineral) sunscreen, meaning that it contains no sunscreen chemicals. Excellent also for sensitive skin. Expensive, but worth it for the extra protection.

      How to Use

Apply sunblock in the morning and reapply every 2-3 hours if sweating or outdoors.

      Ingredients

Active Ingredient: Zinc Oxide 18.60%, Inactive Ingredients: Water, Cyclomethicone, Glycerine, Glyceryl Stearate and PEG 100 Stearate, Sorbitol, Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbitan Stearate, Lecithin, Arabidopsis Extract, Plankton Extract, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA

    4. Retinol for Wrinkles and Skin Care
      Retinol Complex .25
      SkinMedica
      $62.00

      Size: 1 oz

      Who It's For

For sun-damaged skin and for those wanting to prevent the appearance of wrinkles and aging.

      Dr. Irwin's Product Review

This is SkinMedica's updated version of the old Tri-Retinol Complex, and it is still an excellent over-the-counter retinol.  At this percentage, the effects are similar to Renova/tretinoin, etc. Use at night. If you can use the prescription version of tretinoin (like Renova), do so - but many people don’t want to be bothered with a prescription and the two retinols listed on this site are almost as good. This retinol also has vitamin E in a base that will not clog pores and is still compatible with moisturizers and sunscreens. Also see the Neocutis Nouvelle+Retinol Correction Cream.  Start with this one though if you have never used a retinoid before.

Retinoids are repair creams that have 20 years of science and experience behind them. They build collagen and normalize sun damaged keratinocytes (skin cells) and help to prevent precancerous growths and skin cancers if used regularly.

      How to Use

Apply one pump to the face at night. Always use at night - light inactivates it. Begin using twice per week, then increase gradually.  If this product irritates your skin a little, try applying your moisturizer first, then wait 10-20 minutes, then apply this. You must use a sunscreen every morning if you use a retinoid because your skin will be just slightly more sun sensitive.  Stop this product a week before sunny vacations and consider not using it if you can't be consistent with sunscreen or truly are outdoors constantly.

      Ingredients

Water/Aqua/Eau, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Niacinamide, Polyacrylate-13, Squalane, Retinol, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8, Dunaliella Salina Extract, Magnolia Grandiflora Bark Extract, Tocopherol, Tocotrienols, Ceramide 3, Bisabolol, Phytosterols, Squalene, Tocopheryl Acetate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Wax (Oryza Sativa Cera), Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polysorbate 20, Butylene Glycol, Cetyl Palmitate, Laureth-23, Trideceth-6 Phosphate, Sodium Hydroxide, Dicaprylyl Ether, Lauryl Alcohol, Polyisobutene, Dextran, Potassium Sorbate, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin

    5. organic moisturizer for aging skin
      Blueberry Soy Night Recovery Cream
      Eminence
      $64.00

      Size: 2 fl oz

      Who It's For

Mostly for dry, 40+ or estrogen-challenged skin

      Dr. Irwin's Product Review

Organic. This rich moisturizer contains blueberry extract as an antioxidant and soy which has some estrogenic effects (helps plump the skin). Great for extremely dry skin. Smells wonderful and a very nice consistency.  You don't need much and it's a very popular gift.

      How to Use

Apply once or twice daily.   You can thin it a little with water in your palm to make it a lighter consistency or if travelling to a more humid climate.   I love this on airplanes to rehydrate hands and face and put it in a small container in my flight bag.  It doesn't have a lot of preservatives, so if you haven't used it in 3 months after opening, throw it out.

      Ingredients

Blueberry Juice, Blueberry Pulp, Corn Germ Oil, Cetearyl Glucoside, Shea Butter, Soy Yogurt, Raspberry Juice, Bramble Juice, Glyceryl Stearate, Grape Seed Oil, Calendula Oil, Glycerin (Vegetable Based), Xanthan Gum, Biocomplex (Vitamins A-C-E, Coenzyme Q10, Alpha Lipoic Acid), Evening Primrose Oil, Glycine Derivative, Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid

    6. Neck, Chest, and Hand Repair
      Neck Chest and Hand Repair
      SkinCeuticals
      $70.00

      Size: 2 oz

      Who It's For

Everyone interested in preserving the skin on their neck, chest and hands.  Not irritating but be careful if you have sensitive skin - try a small area at first.

      Dr. Irwin's Product Review

Finally a good product for the neck, chest and hands.  Does seem to improve color and texture overall but don't expect change in deeper wrinkles or raised brown spots. You need your dermatologist for those.

      How to Use

Every morning under sunscreen and every evening under moisturizer on the neck, chest, and hands.

      Ingredients

    SkinTour's Philosophy:
    Skincare is your best
    investment
One of the best investments in your skin is your daily skincare. Why? Because you can prevent many problems with blotchy skin color, lack of glow, texture, some types of acne, and fine lines with good skincare products. You can also correct some of these problems with effective skincare products. Great skincare is often more expensive because quality ingredients are expensive. Some companies spend on research/development which benefits all of us and adds to the cost. Are they worth it? In general - yes!
